A story with your child’s name in it is nice. A story that knows them is something else.
Most personalised books put a name into a story that was already written. The dragon is the same dragon, the ending is the same ending, and the child is a sticker on someone else’s book.
TaleForMe writes the story after you tell us about them. Their best friend is in it. So is the dog. So is the fact that they will only wear the yellow wellingtons, and that they are starting school in September and have asked, eleven times, whether you will definitely come back.
What gets woven in
You choose how much to tell us. Every one of these changes the actual story, not just a name on a page.
- Their name, age and how they look
- What they are like — brave, shy, funny, endlessly curious
- The things they love this month, which is not what they loved last month
- Brothers, sisters, parents, grandparents, best friends and pets, by name
- The thing happening in their life right now, in your own words
Illustrated properly
Every page is illustrated in one of eight styles, from soft storybook watercolour to bold modern picture book. The character is defined once, before a single picture is drawn, so the child on page twenty-two is recognisably the child on page one.
Words are never drawn into the artwork. They are set afterwards in real typography, which is why the pages read cleanly on a phone and print sharply at 300 dpi.

The digital book is ready to read within minutes of you finishing the form. The printed hardcover — thick matte paper, sewn and bound, your dedication inside the front — is coming soon, and every book you make is saved until it does.
Questions
How long does it take?
The whole story is written, and the cover and opening spreads illustrated, within a few minutes. You can close the tab and come back — it carries on without you and waits in your library. The remaining illustrations are painted once you order, which takes a few minutes more.
Can I change it if something is not right?
Yes. You can rewrite any page, regenerate any illustration, change the title and edit the dedication before you order anything.
Do I have to upload a photo?
No, and most people do not. If you do, we use it once to draw a single original character in your chosen style, then delete it. Every page is drawn from that character, so they look the same throughout.
